Official GUINNESS Cheddar Launches in Ireland
We are really proud to announce that only official GUINNESS Cheddar has launched in Ireland and is available through our Irish partners Horgan’s Delicatessen Supplies, based in Mitchelstown Co.Cork, Ireland.
What better a place to announce our partnership than the GUINNESS Storehouse in Dublin, where we enjoyed a day of celebrating our Cheddar with a selection of beers and food sampling, each perfectly paired by the chefs and beer team to compliment the bold and malty taste of GUINNESS cheddar.
Thanks to the Guinness licensing team our team along with our guests enjoyed a fascinating tour of the Storehouse, and a lunch of Oysters and Guinness.
Horgan’s Delicatessen Supplies is a family-owned and operated business. Since the 1970’s, when the company was founded, Horgan’s have been dedicated to sourcing the finest quality food products around the globe, and providing an exceptional and personalised service to their customers, with whom they work with as partners in shared success. Today, this vision has seen the business evolve into one of the premier specialty food distributors on the island of Ireland.
The distribution agreement, was signed ahead of a visit by both companies to the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin. During the visit, both family owned enterprises, met with the senior licensing team, where they sampled pairings of cheese and beer, discussed the partnership, then reviewed the GUINNESS Cheddar product range.
Infused with the distinctive taste of real GUINNESS beer, the cheddar, which is produced in Somerset by Windyridge Cheese, is part of a three-year licensing deal. GUINNESS Cheddar will also be available in the UK from August, and Windyridge will soon announce further listings and agreements for distribution in North America. This comes after the company recently extended their licence agreement for the US market, prior to showcasing GUINNESS Cheddar at the Summer Fancy Food Fair in New York, which took place this June.
In Ireland, Windyridge will work together in partnership with Horgans Delicatessen Supplies on a strategy that will see a range of GUINNESS Cheddar products being made available in different weights, sizes and slices, some of the truckles are coated in a signature black wax. NOTES TO EDITORS
GUINNESS and Windyridge bring you this truly unique cheddar range. Father and son, Melvin and Matthew Glynn, operate the company. Melvin is a well-known and respected industry visionary that has been working in cheese production, for over 35 years with companies based in both the UK and Europe.
Previously he was managing Director of Ilchester Cheese where he oversaw massive expansion and a huge increase in turnover and profit, organised a successful management buyout of the business, and the subsequent sale to TINE (the largest dairy group in Norway). He also worked as Managing Director of Burt’s Potato Chips where he grew sales by 66% in one year
The food business runs deep in Managing Director, Michael Horgan’s family, since 1921, when his Grandfather opened Horgan’s Butchers Shop on the main street of Mitchelstown. The Butchers Shop was eventually passed down through the generations to Michael, where in 1976, Horgan’s Delicatessen Supplies Ltd. was founded by Michael and Maura Horgan from a warehouse at the rear of the shop.
Horgans began its operations as an importer and distributor of a small range of specialty cheeses and meats, which, at the time, was a much-underserved niche in the Irish market. Over time, the business expanded to meet growing awareness and demand from the Irish consumer, for a larger variety of continental cheeses and meats. In 1987, to meet the growing demands of the business, Horgans moved to its current location, a state- of-the-art warehouse and production facility with over 40,000 square feet of warehouse and office space.

GUINNESS CHEDDAR: NEW YORK LAUNCH PARTY
A few weeks ago we headed to New York to launch GUINNESS Cheddar at The Summer Fancy Food Show, the largest speciality food industry event in North America. Alongside our partners Atalanta Corporation and Coombe Castle, we were overwhelmed with the response at The Fancy Food show and from everyone who we met during our stay in the Big Apple.
As well as showcasing the Guinness Cheddar range at the show, we also held an exclusive pre show party, hosted on a wonderful rooftop venue in Midtown overlooking the iconic Empire State Building.
At this intimate event, guests who included customers, associates, press, buyers and family, were all treated to an evening that celebrated everything about Guinness Cheddar, and our new venture in the United States.
Guinness ambassadors were on hand to show how to pour the perfect pint of GUINNESS, as well as a delicious range of food expertly prepared by chefs Andy Gonzales of Steinbeck’s and Cameron Thomson of Farm Burger Chef. The food included Smoked Brisket with grilled Guinness Cheddar, Mini Shepherd pies with Guinness Cheddar, Chocolate Guinness brownies, Warm Guinness Cheddar and stout dips, with baked pretzel loaves, as well as other delicious combinations prepared for the evening.
All of the dishes were matched with Guinness Draught, Open Gate Brewery beers and GUINNESS Blonde chilled especially for the culinary feast.
